Rhode Island Rural Outreach Program, is a federally funded project coordinated by RICADV in partnership with Day One, formerly the Sexual Assault and Trauma Resource Center of Rhode Island. The purpose of the project is to reach women in rural and suburban communities who experience various barriers to receiving help for domestic violence and child victimization.

The strength of this project is the involvement of the community. One of the key components of this project is to base services and outreach on the fact that victims living in these rural and suburban areas face different barriers than those living in urban areas. Victims living in these communities are particularly isolated and therefore at risk for serious abuse. The project was formed with the premise that if violence against women and children in Rhode Island's rural/suburban communities is to be stopped, the isolation and unique needs facing these victims need to be counteracted by a proactive, innovative strategy of community partnerships and enhanced service provision.

Each community involved has established a Community Partnership Team (CPT). The CPTs are comprised of domestic violence advocates and a variety of community-based service providers, including law enforcement officers, educators, clergy, health care providers, prosecutors, judges, community center coordinators and concerned citizens. The CPTs are responsible for creating and implementing strategies tailored specifically to meet the needs of and reach out to victims in their community.
