Communities of Color Against Violence is a committee of RICADV comprised of staff of color from RICADV, its task force of survivors – SOAR, and its six member agencies. The committee works together with representatives from community organizations, businesses and faith communities to provide programs and outreach to communities of color about domestic violence, with the goal of ending domestic violence in those communities.

Domestic violence does not discriminate. It affects individuals and families of all racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds in all parts of the world. Awareness and education of domestic violence is crucial among communities of color, which often silence the issue and face different cultural, religious and economic barriers in relation to domestic violence. We envision an alliance that will work to strengthen communities of color by eliminating domestic violence in those communities. We will achieve this vision by being a visible unified voice within the domestic violence movement and by:

  • Providing networking opportunities and the exchange of ideas and resources for activists of color
  • Promoting leadership development for activists of color
  • Enhancing the capacity of the RICADV member agencies and SOAR to develop culturally appropriate strategies and materials that effectively address the issue of domestic violence among communities of color.
