How to Help

  • Support your local domestic violence agency in your city or town. Support your local agency by volunteering, making a financial contribution or assisting with local outreach efforts. You can find out the name and phone number for your local domestic violence agency by clicking here.
  • Educate yourself, your friends, and your family about the warning signs of domestic violence. Take time to educate yourself about the warning signs of domestic violence. Educate others and encourage them to talk to someone they suspect is in a violent relationship. Don't accept the old adage of "mind your own business," because in cases of domestic violence, it is your business. Domestic violence is a crime, not a private family matter.
  • Get involved with the RICADV legislative alert network. Contact the Coalition at 467-9940 or www.ricadv.org to become involved in our legislative network. You will receive action alerts on upcoming legislation and can add your voice to those working to ensure that Rhode Island's domestic violence laws focus on keeping victims safe and holding batterers accountable for their abuse.
  • Register to vote, support candidates who are strong on domestic violence issues. Find out how candidates stand on the issue of domestic violence. Let them know you care about this issue and that you plan to support the candidate who is strong on domestic violence issues.
