The Abuse Prevention Education Network is made up of the prevention educators of the RICADV six member agencies and Day One. In the summer of 2007, the Katie Brown Educational Program joined the Network in an effort to work collaboratively on providing schools guidance on implementation of the Lindsay Burke Act and to share educational resources. This is a significant success for the RICADV as this Network has been sustained, despite the lack of financial resources to support this collaboration.
The prevention educators provide youth with information on healthy relationships and challenge them to think critical about the role of the media, gender roles, and social norms play in perpetuating teen dating violence. In addition to providing curriculum based education, the educators also are available to train school administrators, teachers and parents on the dynamics of teen dating violence and bullying and provide technical assistance on policy development and implementation.
