Domestic Violence 101

What is Domestic Violence? How does it affect men and women and children in heterosexual and same sex
relationships? How does it impact children who witness domestic violence? Learn about the power and control in relationships, the cycle of violence, barriers to leaving and available community resources. Participants will also have the opportunity to practice responding to victims and de-bunk myths about the causes of domestic violence.

Protective orders are used to help protect individuals, mostly women, from partner violence.
But do we know the actual effectiveness of protective orders for the majority of women who seek them?
Walk through a set of three intensive studies that answer most of the concerns of victims, victim advocates and other professionals in the justice system. Finally, the most comprehensive examination of protective orders assessed using victim self reports, court data, and key informants from courts, law enforcement and advocacy.

Immigration and Domestic Violence

Immigration issues present many concerns for domestic violence victims and the advocates that help them. Language barriers, cultural barriers, fear of authorities, and threats from abusers to take their children or turn them over to authorities only complicate matters. Join us in getting the facts from the professionals who deal with this on the front lines.

Anti–Racism Tools

Tools were developed as a part of our Dismantling Racism Work in an effect to help us continue our journey of un-learning racism. Since our anti-racism work is an ongoing process, take this opportunity to practice using the tools developed and to engage in conversations about practical ways to engage fellow staff and other audiences in this work.
ONLY OPEN TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ADVOCATES THAT HAVE BEEN TRAINED IN DISMANTLING RACISM.

Fees: Fees must be paid prior to training. The registration fee is waived for RICADV member agencies and SOAR. However, member agencies will be charged the cost of registration if they do not cancel within 24 hours of the workshop.
Interpreters: Interpreters will be provided upon request; three (3) weeks advance notice is required.
Cancellation Policy: RICADV has a no-refund policy for cancellations. Registration may be transferred to another individual or to another training offered in the RICADV Training Calendar. Member agencies will be charged the cost of registration if they do not cancel within 24 hours of the training.
Confirmation and Directions: All trainings are held at the RICADV in Warwick unless otherwise noted in your confirmation email/fax. Directions to the RICADV or alternate training site will be emailed/faxed three (3) days prior to the training. If you do not receive an email or fax, please reconfirm that you are registered for the training.
